There
has been a Volunteer Bureau in Dacorum since 1971, largely as
a result of the work of a dedicated team of trustees, staff
and volunteers, and consistent
support from Dacorum Borough Council
-
Volunteer
Centre Dacorum is a registered charity. It needs to double the
funding received from the local authority every year in order
to survive
-
Along
with other Local Volunteering Development Agencies throughout
England, it adopted national branding in 2005 and became Volunteer
Centre Dacorum
-
The
Volunteer Centre moved to the Roundhouse in Hemel Hempstead
Town Centre in April 2007. The building was previously Dacorum
Borough Council's Information Centre

Volunteer
Centre Dacorum achieved Volunteering England Quality Accreditation
in November 2005 and renewed this in December 2008.
The
Centre was assessed on each of the 6 core services of a
local volunteering development agency:-
-
Brokerage
- we match both individuals and groups interested
in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in
the local community
-
Marketing
- we encourage local interest in volunteering using
a variety of initiatives
-
Promotion
of good practice - we promote good practice in
volunteer management to organisations through advice,
guidance and training
-
Develop
local volunteering opportunities - we work with
organisations to develop new opportunities for people
of all abilities and ensure that those who face barriers
to volunteering are able to contribute
-
Policy
response & training - we identify and respond
to proposals or legislation that may impact on volunteering
-
Strategic
development of volunteering - we network at a
local, regional and national level in the strategic
development of volunteering

Background
information
Volunteer Centre Dacorum plays a full part in the support
and development of the voluntary sector within Dacorum.
We were involved in developing the Dacorum
Compact and took the lead in producing the Volunteering
Code of Good Practice.
The support of Dacorum
Borough Council is key to the success of the Volunteer
Centre. It provides funding for core activities, and premises
from which to operate.
Over the last 14 years, the Centre has developed additional
partnerships and funding arrangements with the Home Office,
the Department for Education and Skills, the South East Economic
Development Strategy, Hertfordshire County Council, the Nationwide
Foundation, the Allen Lane Foundation, Hertfordshire Community
Foundation, TimeBank, Lloyds TSB Foundations, the Sylvia Adams
Charitable Trust, Capacitybuilders and Volunteering England.
The majority of this funding is for short term projects.
Where
is Dacorum? North
West Hertfordshire. Includes Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted,
Tring, Kings Langley and surrounding villages. |
