WIN THIS BEAUTIFUL CRYSTAL TROPHY & £200 FOR YOUR ORGANISATION!

This annual award will recognise excellence in Volunteer Management amongst local voluntary / statutory agencies.

The inspiration for this award comes from Volunteer Centre President, Betty Lees MBE, a tireless supporter of the Dacorum voluntary sector for many years.

The Lees Award is presented annually to the local voluntary group / statutory agency / project which demonstrates excellence in its support of volunteers.

Most importantly - the organisation can only be nominated for this award by its volunteers.

One of the core functions of a Volunteer Centre is to promote good practice in Volunteer Management amongst local organisations.

Co-ordinating volunteers is a much underrated skill and does not often receive the attention it should.

Factors taken into consideration by a panel of judges will include:-
  • the welcome given to new volunteers and prompt responses given to offers of help
  • explanation of any selection processes involved
  • a named person within the group responsible for looking after volunteers
  • clear descriptions of volunteer tasks
  • volunteer guidelines e.g. welcome pack
  • appropriate induction / training for new volunteers
  • explanation of Insurance cover (public liability)
  • appropriate expenses offered for travel etc.
  • explanation of Health & Safety policy
  • implementation of an Equal Opportunities statement / policy
  • volunteers offered the chance to contribute to decision making e.g. in team meetings
