DACORUM VOLUNTEER BUREAU
(A company limited by guarantee)
TRUSTEES REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH 2007
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The Trustees present their report for the year ended 31st March 2007.
Governing document
Dacorum Volunteer Bureau is a registered charity (1088117) and a company limited by guarantee (4232833). The company was established under a Memorandum of Association, which established the objects and powers of the charitable company, and is governed under its Articles of Association.
Dacorum Volunteer Bureau was first registered as an independent charity in 1981, having been part of the Council for Voluntary Service since 1971. It existed as an unincorporated organisation until incorporation in October 2001.
Since June 2005, it has operated under the name of Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
Recruitment and appointment of Directors
The Directors of the company are also charity trustees for the purposes of charity law.
Under the requirements of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the company, trustees (with the exception of the director appointed by Dacorum Borough Council) are subject to retirement by rotation, with one third of the directors standing down at each annual general meeting. They may be re-elected.
At the 2006 AGM in October, Jean Hewison, Tony Amies and Ian Passey stood down as Directors, but were eligible for re-election. Jean Hewison decided to retire and not stand again, the other 2 Directors were re-elected.
The Board of Directors has a range of skills and experience relevant to the work of the Centre. Each new director completes a skills audit on appointment. Gaps in overall skill areas are addressed with targeted recruitment initiatives.
Trustee Induction and training
New trustees are invited and encouraged to make visits to the Centre to familiarise themselves with the day-to-day work of the charity. A buddy system exists with trustees offering 1:1 support to new members of the Board.  Notification of appropriate training courses for trustees is distributed.
A comprehensive induction pack is given to new trustees with updates of policies, procedures and relevant paperwork circulated to all trustees as and when appropriate.  In this way the information needed by trustees is kept up to date.  The induction pack includes: -
