You don’t need to be a powerful mover
and shaker like Sir Elton, or come from a specific background,
to be a trustee
If
you are a person with fresh ideas and energy you could bring
much needed new blood into a local charity. Time commitment
can be as little as 4 hours a month, or as much as 4 hours a
week, depending on the organisation you join.
Useful
skills for Trustees include visionary thinking, business planning,
financial management, publicity & PR, employment law, etc.
This might all sound a bit daunting, but don’t be put
off if you feel your skills are limited right now. Remember
that decisions of Trustees are made as a group, so your contribution
can grow as you become more experienced.
A
discussion with the Volunteer Centre, and with the charity itself,
can soon establish whether your skills and interests would fit
with the needs of a local Trustee Board
