Do you have an interest in Arts and Crafts?
If so, you may like to become a volunteer Art and Gallery Assistant at the Upstairs Gallery in central Berkhamsted. This volunteer-run organisation, supported by a charitable trust, was set up in 2011 to provide a showcase for Chiltern artists at an affordable cost, and over the last six years has become a well-established part of the Chilterns art scene. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to meet these local artists, as well as developing your retail skills.
It is an interesting place in which to volunteer as, throughout the year, the gallery holds many different events including themed open submission exhibitions and solo/partner shows in addition to exhibiting work by local community/ education groups.
Volunteers are required to work on a regular rota. An interest in or an appreciation of art and craft would be good but it is not an essential.
Working at the Gallery is fun and varied. There is the possibility of helping with displays, PR and sharing any art or craft interest that you may have with visitors. Details of past, current and future exhibitions can be found on the gallery website www.upstairsgallery.co.uk
For this role, you need to be a people person with good communication skills as well as being able to work on your own. Simple administration skills and the ability to handle cash would be an advantage. A reasonable degree of fitness is necessary as you will need to be able to climb stairs and lift items down from the displays. Training and regular supervision will be provided.
If you have some time to spare and are interested, the Upstairs Gallery would love to hear from you. They are particularly in need of help on a Saturday. So if you have time on your hands on a Saturday this could be the role for you!
