Shopmobility is a national scheme that enables people with mobility difficulties, whether permanent or temporary, to get out and about for shopping and other activities.
In Hemel Hempstead, this service is delivered by Community Action Dacorum in partnership with Dacorum Borough Council. The aim of Shopmobility is achieved by providing a range of wheelchairs and scooters, manual or battery-operated, obtained with the help of generous sponsorship of local organisations. These are loaned to users of the service. Shopmobility are also able to provide a service for organised groups of customers given reasonable notice.
The whole of the town centre, the Marlowes Shopping Centre, and the pedestrian area of Marlowes can be visited using these vehicles.
The Shopmobility service is available Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 5pm and is located within the Marlowes Centre car park, on level A of the Blue Car Park which is the first entrance in Wolsey Road. It is also well signposted on the approach to the Town Centre. By foot, Shopmobility can be reached from within the Marlowes Centre by taking the lift in the far left corner of the mall at the end of the Wilko’s window display to level A.
Shopmobility are currently recruiting volunteers to help them deliver for the community. They are in need of a receptionist to fulfil a variety of tasks such as meeting and greeting customers as well as answering the phones. No special skills are required but some basic IT skills would be advantageous.
They are also looking for Maintenance Volunteers to help maintain their fleet of mobility vehicles. Tasks for this role would include cleaning the vehicles and making small repairs.
