Unusual Volunteering Opportunities

Talking to friends and people generally I have realised that many people don’t fully appreciate the wide variety of volunteering opportunities that are available here at Volunteer Centre Dacorum. When talking about volunteering people tend to think of helping in charity shops, serving refreshments, driving people to the shops, befriending, helping at a

Playgroup, gardening etc and of course all these opportunities are available and very worthwhile.

There are however many more alternative and very different opportunities available. Below is just a very small sample of opportunities that are currently available:

Vinyl, DVD and CD Volunteer (British Heart Foundation) – to check stock for defects, research, rotate and price stock.

Dance Leader (Adeyfield Neighbourhood Association) – To lead well established group in modern/old time dance.

E-Bay Lister (British Heart Foundation) – To list furniture and bric-a-brac on E-bay for their furniture and Electricals shop.

Civilian Instructor (1113 Berkhamsted Squadron Air Training Corps) – Be part of a dedicated fun team, and deliver training to cadets in aviation and other related topics.

Data Research Assistant (Druglink) – To research and help build a database of Druglink supporters from local businesses.

Tour Guide (Frogmore Paper Mill) – Act as a guide for groups and individual visitors, full training provided.

Team Leader (Repair Shed) – Help bring together men aged 50+ to stay healthier and happier for longer through making, mending and learning in a communal workspace.

Craft Group Volunteer (Hospice of St. Francis) – To assist in provision of handmade craft items to sell at external events.

Home Sitters (Breakaway for Carers) –To sit with a dependent person for a few hours per week to give carers a break.
