Volunteering is Good for You!

Most people who volunteer, initially do so because they want to do something useful for the community but, once they have volunteered, they realise how much they themselves benefit from an increase in their feeling of wellbeing. In fact the benefits are such that many doctors recommend volunteering to patients who are suffering from depression from redundancy, loneliness, bereavement etc.

For younger people, and for anyone finding it difficult to gain employment, volunteering is a really good way for them to gain experience and increase their confidence both of which are of course beneficial for seeking future employment. Many use volunteering as a stepping stone into employment.

If you have never volunteered and have time to spare there are many different opportunities available to you. For maximum benefit it is important to choose something that captivates your interest.

All opportunities are online at www.volunteerdacorum.org under ‘Volunteers’ or alternatively you can pick up a printed list (updated monthly) at The Roundhouse (by Boots), Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead.
