Are you aged between 14 and 19?
Have you ever thought about volunteering?
“Why volunteer?”
Apart from the obvious reason - to help others, there are many other reasons why you may want to volunteer:
Volunteering is a great way to improve your C.V. and therefore improve your career prospects as employers now more often look for candidates with a wide range of skills, and experiences. Moreover, it counts towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award as well as looking good on your UCAS form!
It is also an opportunity to learn new and useful skills e.g. problem solving, teamwork and communication skills as well as helping you become more creative. You will meet people from all walks of life and make new friends giving you a much broader outlook on life than those that have never volunteered.
Volunteering will give you a sense of purpose and direction in life helping you become more confident generally. Volunteering will give you the satisfaction of seeing the impact that you are making to someone’s life either directly (for example by helping at a sports club) or indirectly (for example by working in a charity shop). It is also known to be good for one’s mental health especially as it makes you appreciate your own life. More than that, and most importantly – IT’S FUN!
What can you do?
There is a wide range of opportunities available for younger people. You don’t need any special skills; you just need to be willing and enthusiastic! The organisation will give you support and provide any training that you may need for any of the following roles:
* Volunteer at a sports club
* Coaching
* Business administration
* Charity shop work
* Work with children
* Environmental projects
* I.T. Support
* Social media/website support
* Help other people
