Volunteering Doesn’t Stop at Christmas!

It is always nice to be appreciated and our Knit and Natter group were delighted when they were presented with a Certificate from the West Herts Hospital Trust to thank them for all the lovely knitted items they have made for the Trust. These have included baby clothes and blankets for the neonatal unit and Twiddlemuffs for Dementia patients.

Tricia, our Community Champion from Tesco also joined the ladies for tea and mince pies to celebrate the occasion and a very enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

Christmas is coming – which means that Santa will be making an appearance in a street near you!  If you have not yet seen Santa’s Sleigh, organised by Hemel Hempstead Rotary Club, do look out for it. This year, for the first year ever, his Sleigh is out most evenings, come rain or shine, collecting for various local charities. So far, in just 8 evenings they have raised nearly £5000!  None of this would have been possible without the help of a large number of volunteers. Details of times and routes are on the Rotary Club Facebook page.

Although Christmas is looming, we are still receiving new opportunities for volunteering, the latest being -

Nature Tots Volunteer Assistant at Boxmoor Trust – This is a lovely opportunity for anyone who enjoys the company of toddlers and likes being outdoors. The group meets in the morning on the third Tuesday of the month.

Clinic Assistant at Herts Vision Loss  - An empathetic person is needed to meet, greet and support patients during their visit to the Low Vision Clinic in Hemel Hempstead and The Blind Centre in Boxmoor. Full training will be given.

Befriender – If you are friendly and sociable, befrienders are needed to visit blind people in the local area to have a chat, help with shopping, go for a walk together, help with writing or reading the mail etc.

More details of these and other opportunities are on our website www.volunteerdacorum.org.    Alternatively, visit us at The Roundhouse (by Boots), Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead. Our opening hours are 10.00 – 4.00 Weekdays, 11.00 – 3.00 Saturdays

Please note the Volunteer Centre Dacorum will be closed over Christmas from 4.00pm Tuesday 19th December, and will reopen at 10am Wednesday 3rd January.
