Local Opportunities

This is a busy time of year but, if you do have a few minutes to spare, why not visit our new website   www.volunteerdacorum.org to see all the interesting volunteering opportunities available with organisations in the Dacorum area. By volunteering with them you can transform the lives of people in the local community. Below is a sample of local organisations in need of volunteers:

DENS - This organisation is particularly relevant at this time of year as it houses, supports and empowers vulnerable single homeless people and others in crisis, to transform their lives.

Happy Wanderers Club – This is a support group for elderly disabled people living in Berkhamsted and Northchurch. Why the name then? When the group was first started they didn’t have a regular venue so they used to ‘wander’ from one member’s home to another. They enjoyed the meetings so much that they always went home with smiles on their faces, hence the name ‘Happy Wanderers’.

Cat’s Protection League – If you love cats the work of this organisation will probably be of interest to you. They rescue and re-home cats and kittens that are made homeless for a variety of reasons – the owner may move and leave their cat, their owner may have died, they may be lost or injured, whilst others are given to them when people can’t cope anymore. All these cats need to be looked after until permanent homes are found for them. Can you help or even give a home to one of these cats?

Berkhamsted Air Cadets – For anyone who is active and enjoys the company of youngsters in the 12-19 age groups this organisation offers interesting volunteering opportunities. The squadron is one of the most active in the Herts and Bucks Wing. As well as offering flying, gliding, shooting and other sporting opportunities the squadron pride themselves on getting as many candidates as possible through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Details of these and many more volunteering roles are available online or at The Roundhouse (by Boots), Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead. Our opening hours are 10.00 – 4.00 Weekdays, 11.00 – 3.00 Saturdays
Please note the Volunteer Centre Dacorum will be closed over Christmas from 4.00pm Tuesday 19th December, and will reopen at 10am Wednesday 3rd January.
