Support4Dacorum

Barbara Burford (Volunteer)

This NEW combined website for Volunteer Centre Dacorum and Community Action Dacorum has been developed to provide a more efficient and comprehensive service for both charities and the local community. Our ultimate aim is to become a one stop shop providing a database of relevant information relating to community and voluntary sector services in the Borough of Dacorum. All this is made possible due to the funding and support that is provided by Dacorum Borough Council.

We hope that you will take the time to look at our website as I am sure that many of you will be surprised at the variety of help that is available here in Dacorum. Did you know, for example, that we support voluntary organisations and community groups at the early stages of their development providing the necessary funding advice and representation at district, county and regional level? For more information please visit: http://support4dacorum.org.uk/

From time to time, we organise free social events to support the local community so we are excited to announce that Radio Dacorum will be broadcasting live from The Roundhouse this Saturday (4th March) 11.00a.m.- 3.00 p.m. If you would like to have the chance of being interviewed, or are just interested in seeing what is going on, do come in. The more the merrier!  As Radio Dacorum is looking for volunteer presenters and assistant broadcasters this would be a great opportunity.

Every month we hold a knitting group at The Roundhouse (by Boots), Marlowes. This is a friendly social occasion for anyone who enjoys knitting. The group makes various items for charitable organisations from wool that has been kindly donated. We have plenty of wool but we do need more knitters. The next session is on Wednesday 1st March from 2p.m. – 3.30p.m. so why not come along? You may even get your photo taken!

Below are some of our current opportunities that may be of interest to you –

Bus Buddy – Age UK Dacorum, Arriva, NHS, Osborne – Volunteers needed to support elderly people with access and mobility barriers to get on and off regular timetabled buses.

Luton Hoo Walled Garden Project – Enjoy Gardening? This is a great opportunity to be involved in developing an 18th century walled garden.
