Outdoor Volunteering Opportunities
Summer is finally here! Did you know that we have a number of outdoor volunteer opportunities so that you can make the most of the weather while giving back to the community?
Sunnyside Rural Trust train people with learning disabilities to acquire skills in a number of rural activities. People with all types of learning difficulties are catered for. The produce grown at Sunnyside is sold at one of their two shops. They have a number of opportunities that would get you outside in the sunshine. Sunnyside are looking for some outdoor loving volunteers to help local adults with learning difficulties to develop their own real experiences of getting involved in creative crafts. This is a great opportunity to use your practical skills to work alongside a professional team in order to coach and support a group of individuals to develop their skills with a wide range of outdoor crafts. They are also looking for volunteer gardeners to help with watering the produce and harvesting the crops to sell in the shop. The work can be done independently or alongside the service users.
Other gardening opportunities include an allotment volunteer with the Waterside Centre in Kings Langley to help prepare and maintain the centre’s allotment and a gardener for Druglink to tend the gardens at their two properties in Hemel Hempstead.
Hertfordshire Mind Network runs a community garden centre called the Green Canteen. They are looking for volunteers to help out with a variety of activities such as supporting clients with mental health and wellbeing issues and general gardening, DIY and craft tasks.
The Box Moor Trust is a self-supporting charity that manages nearly 500 acres or grazing and amenity land on the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead and Bovingdon on behalf of the local community. With so much land to maintain, the Trust is always looking for conservation and estate volunteers. Volunteering for the Box Moor Trust is a fantastic opportunity to get outside, get some fresh air, enjoy the sunshine and meet new people.
