Trustees Week 2019 – 4th – 8th November

This week is Trustees Week, an annual event to celebrate the great work that Trustees do.Trustee Week To mark this, we asked Community Organisations to nominate a Trustee who they felt needed recognising for their work. We received a number of nominations, but the winner stood out because of her hard work and dedication.

Support4Dacorum – Trustee Award 2019

We are very pleased to announce that the winner of the Support4Dacorum Trustee Award 2019 is Helen McMillan, nominated by Vicky Wallace on behalf of the Hope for Children team. Vicky told us that Helen has been involved with the charity since 2001, and despite working full time, her commitment and support has significantly contributed towards their growth over the last 18 years. Helen always spends the equivalent of one day a week doing work on behalf of Hope for Children, is actively involved in the charity’s fundraising, and has also taken it upon herself to self-fund trips to visit projects overseas in order to remain connected with the work of Hope for Children. Vicky felt this was an opportune moment to showcase Helen’s relentless support, and to thank her for all that she has done.

What are Trustees? Charity Trustees are volunteers who play a vital leadership role, ensuring the charity is run in a way that benefits the people it supports, by strategically overseeing its management and administration.

Being a trustee is a most rewarding role, as you have the chance to make a difference to a cause that is important to you.

What skills are needed to be a Trustee? There is no set skill set, as an effective board of Trustees should have members with a range of backgrounds, experiences and skills. A good Trustee will have an interest in the work of the charity, be committed and reliable, and willing to attend and contribute to the Trustee meetings. In return, they will have the opportunity for professional development, to learn from others, and boost their C.V.
