Here at the Volunteer Centre, we work with a number of local charities who are all in need of volunteers! One such charity is Arts Venue in Dacorum (AViD). AViD is a local charity that is campaigning for a new arts venue in Dacorum. The charity believes that Hemel Hempstead is in need of a vibrant arts, entertainment, cultural and social centre at the heart of the town which has been lacking since the demolition of The Pavilion in 2002.
The charity works to promote the campaign with an online petition, through social media and public events. They are also working to raise funds to commission a viable business plan to attract public and private investment.
AViD started in 2014 when a small group of people ran an online petition to ask Dacorum Borough Council for a new arts venue in Hemel after the council announced that the old one would not be replaced. It is the AViD vision that a new venue would be multifunctional, thus maximising the income streams from all possible musical, theatrical, artistic, social and commercial activities, even films.
The Chairman of AViD, Mike Ridley, is intending to step down as Chairman and is therefore looking for someone to take up the role of Chairperson (or Deputy Chairperson with a view to taking over the chairperson role next year). The Trustees of AViD have arranged the Annual General Meeting on Monday 18th May in the evening to select a new chairperson.
