Friends of Jellicoe Water GardensJellicoe Water Gardens

The Jellicoe Water Gardens are the best surviving example of Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe’s work on urban aquatic landscapes. They were designed to represent a serpent, with a fountain as its eye and its tail flipped round a mound. In 2014, Dacorum Borough Council secured Heritage Lottery funding to restore the gardens. The Friends are an enthusiastic group who came together to support the restoration project and continue to encourage the use and enjoyment of the water Gardens by local people and visitors. They run various volunteer activities throughout the year including gardening, Dementia Gardening Club and craft workshops for all age groups.

The Friends of Jellicoe Water Gardens are currently recruiting volunteers for a variety of different roles to help them continue with their work. If you have green fingers, you can volunteer as a gardening assistant to help maintain the beautiful garden. The Friends also need someone to assist with running their Dementia Gardening Club which includes setting up activities and talking to and assisting the attendees.

If you don’t fancy getting your hands dirty but would still like to help, the Friends still need your help! They are looking for an Events Organiser to help devise, plan and organise events and activities in the Water Gardens as well as a volunteer to promote The Jellicoe Water Gardens as a place to visit, a resource for schools and volunteering opportunities through use of social media, the Friends' website and various other appropriate means. The Friends are also in need of a volunteer to research and identify funding sources as well as writing and submitting funding applications and proposals.
