Could you be a Community Car Driver?

Do you have your own car, a UK driving licence, and some spare time on your hands? If so, Community Action Dacorum Community Transport Department would love to hear from you.Hands in the sky under the word Volunteer

Community Cars, a service provided by CAD Community Transport, is in need of car drivers living in the Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring areas.

Community Cars is a Social Car Scheme that solves the transport problems for the less able in Dacorum. Its team of volunteers use their own cars in their free time to drive passengers to destinations such as hospitals and doctors for their appointments. Journeys may be short, but they can be of longer distances too, for example transporting people to hospital appointments in London. Some light lifting may be involved with the lifting of a wheelchairs.

Volunteers will support their clients by transporting them to their appointment, staying if the appointment is for 1 hour or less, and then bringing them home. If the appointment is for more than one hour, the volunteer can decide to do a two way return journey if they prefer.

Volunteers decide on when and how much time they can offer as a Community Car Driver Volunteer – they decide how often they can volunteer, which days they are available, the hours they can volunteer, and the distance they have to drive, so this role is extremely flexible and it can fit easily around your daily routine.  As a Community Car Driver, you will receive travel and parking expenses, and you will also be provided with Personal Protective Equipment and full guidance on how to keep yourself and your client safe. Additionally, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a difference to the life of someone living in your local community.

Does this sound like something you can do? If the answer is yes, or if you have any questions about the role, please call the Volunteer Centre on 01442 247209 or email
