Volunteering Opportunities with Community Action Dacorum
Based in Hemel Hempstead Old Town, Community Action Dacorum is a far greater asset to the local community than many people realise. As a Council for Voluntary Service, they are instrumental in bringing people together for the benefit of the community, and also deliver Support4Dacorum, the support service for voluntary and community groups in Dacorum.
Voluntary organisations and community groups are offered important support at all stages of their development. Funding advice, representation, governance advice and a payroll service is provided to help them grow and flourish, plus a full volunteer brokerage service to link voluntary organisation with appropriate volunteers and the tools to manage them effectively.
Additionally, with the help of volunteers, they deliver valuable projects that support local individuals, businesses and community groups with services such as Community Wheels, Community Cars and Shopmobility, making a real difference to the lives of the elderly and to people who have problems with mobility and have difficulty using public transport.
At the present time volunteer Minibus Drivers are needed by Community Wheels. Can you help? They have 12 of these vehicles including a “community” bus which, for ease of access of all groups are kept in six different locations in Dacorum. These are 12 to 16 passenger vehicles; 8 of which are equipped with tail lifts and removable seats so that wheelchairs can be accommodated.
Door to Store Helpers are also needed to provide support to elderly people, picking them up from their homes and taking them to their local supermarkets. These trips enable users to remain in their own homes, but give them the chance to get out and about. Door to Store runs on a fortnightly basis in Hemel Hempstead, Kings Langley, Bovingdon and Tring.
Radio Dacorum needs volunteer presenters for its 24/7 online community radio station. The station lets residents, voluntary groups, public authorities and private companies promote their activities. It also aims to encourage a sense of pride in Dacorum and helps people get involved in their community.
