Volunteering – What could you do?
Hopefully, my article last week will have encouraged anyone with time on their hands to think about volunteering. Volunteering is flexible, enjoyable, rewarding, and beneficial both to the volunteer and their recipients.
Below is just a very small sample of volunteering opportunities that we have available. Where necessary, training will be provided.
Bennnetts End Neighbourhood Association – As well as an IT helper for their Internet Café, a Playgroup Helper is needed for “The Little Hoppers Parent and Toddler Group” which runs on a Wednesday morning for 3 hours.
British Heart Foundation – There are several different and varied vacancies including one for a Canvasser who is needed to “man” the phones, chat to local businesses and help them generate more stock as well as find new sites for donation bins.
Cherry Tree Housing Association – This is an opportunity to become a member on their board which provides housing and support to vulnerable people. The role requires attending 6 board meetings per year plus other occasional meetings.
DENS – A Driver’s Mate is needed to go out on the DENS van to help deliver furniture and collect donated furniture. A Smoke Alarm and Pat Tester is also needed to visit properties managed by DENS rent aid to check that fire safety measures are in place and also to PAT test electrical items for safety.
Remap South Herts – Disability Aids Engineers and a PR/Fundraiser are needed locally. This national organisation provides innovative solutions to everyday challenges encountered by people with disabilities.
The Hospice of St Francis is looking for an experienced gardener to maintain their beautiful gardens in Berkhamsted.
