Volunteer Drivers Urgently Needed!

CAD LogoCommunity Action Dacorum are desperate for both car and minibus drivers to help provide transport for older people and people with a physical disability or sensory impairment who have difficulties using public transport in the Dacorum area.

If you enjoy driving and meeting new people, why not join the community transport team and help make a real difference to people’s lives, by enabling them to live independently, socialise and fulfil everyday activities. Many would be virtually housebound and socially isolated if it weren’t for these volunteer drivers.

Most of the driver roles are very flexible, with you choosing when and how often you volunteer.  All of the following services urgently require drivers:

Social Care Service - to help less able residents of Dacorum solve their transport problems e.g. visits to the doctor, hospital, library, day centre etc. Volunteers use their own vehicle. No extra insurance is needed and volunteers receive a mileage allowance.

Door to Store – this is a shopping service for people who are unable to get to the shops without some help.  As well as enabling them to shop for their groceries, this service gives them the chance to enjoy a drink and snack in the supermarket café and also to meet and make new friends.

Minibus Hire – available for use by Community Action Dacorum member groups and organisations.

Day Trippers Club – these trips are a lifeline to many, enabling them to enjoy trips to interesting venues that would normally not be available to them. The minibus is fully accessible with a passenger lift and a Volunteer Passenger Assistant supports members whilst on these trips.

If you enjoy driving, and have a few hours to spare, why not volunteer as a driver?  We are sure that the experience will be satisfying and rewarding. You will find that people are very grateful to you for helping to transform their lives and boost their morale.
