Volunteer’s Week – a chance to say Thank You!

This week is Volunteers’ Week, an annual campaign established in 1984. It is a great opportunity for Voluntary Organisations to celebrate and thank their volunteers, and recognise the incredible contribution they make to the local community. Volunteers are an integral part of our society and without their dedication, enthusiasm and commitment, many of the services we take for granted would simply grind to a halt.

Latest figures show that in the U.K, approximately 1 in 5 adults participate in regular volunteering, volunteering for an average of 11 hours per month. It is estimated that their contribution delivers an estimated £22.6 billion into the UK economy. Andrew

Events have taken place right across the country to mark Volunteers’ Week 2018, and here at the Volunteer Centre, we held a special event at the Roundhouse last Saturday. We are also taking the opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to our 25 volunteers who work with us. They are a fantastic group of hardworking people who freely give their time to the centre, and without them we would not be able to offer the services we do.

However, volunteering is a two way relationship, and alongside the contribution to the local community, volunteers also benefit hugely from the experience, learning new skills, getting back into paid work, improving physical or mental well-being or simply meeting new and interesting people and having fun.

If you are considering volunteering, but are not sure if it is right for you, we offer free Life Coaching sessions with Viviana, an experienced Life Coach, and one of our volunteers, at the Roundhouse on Thursday mornings – (advanced bookings are essential).

Viviana, who has volunteered with us for the over two years, is dedicated and passionate about helping people gain clarity and focus, so they can find direction and meaning in their lives. She aims, through her relaxed conversation-based Life Coaching sessions, to give people a chance for reflection, and self- discovery with the aim of helping them achieve their goals by unblocking their potential. If you are unsure about volunteering, would like help to overcome any challenges you might be facing in your role as a volunteer, or would like more information, please call 01442 247209.
