Calling all young people!

Did you know that recently, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of young people aged between 16 and 25 across the UK doing some sort of volunteer work, showing that more and more young people are realising the benefits of volunteering.

For those of you still in school, volunteering is a fantastic opportunity to make yourself more appealing to universities and future employers. If you wish to attend university, doing some volunteering in your school holidays or at weekends will not only look great on your UCAS applications but will also set you apart from other candidates. Alternatively, if you decide not to go to university choosing the work route instead,  volunteering will give you the skills that employers are looking for, which will help to make your application stand out!

It’s never too early to start thinking about life after school! Volunteering now will give you an advantage over other people your age. As well as benefitting you in the future, volunteering is an amazing experience where you’ll have lots of fun and meet lots of new people.

Many university students, upon graduating, find it hard to find a job even with a degree, as a lot of university graduates lack any kind of work experience.  Volunteering during your holidays, or whilst or after studying will give you the practical experiences that will help you land a graduate job as well as providing you with references.

At the Volunteer Centre, we have a wide range of volunteering opportunities to suit people of all ages from the age of 14. However, as not all volunteer roles are suitable for all age groups, we have compiled a list of opportunities organised by age groups, which is available at the Roundhouse.  Examples of roles available are Activity Helper, Litter Picker, Charity Shop Volunteer, Riding for the Disabled helper and Brownies Helper.

For more information, call us on 01442 247209 to book an appointment with one of our advisors, or visit us at the Roundhouse.  We are open Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. Alternatively, you can visit our website, www.volunteerdacorum.org.
